Grinning Cat's stance on privacy is pretty simple: we protect people-privacy. We don't want to collect people-data you aren't willing to give and we refuse to share people-data as much as is possible. People-data belongs to people and not to us. We try our best to be fair about that. We also try our best to keep any data we interact with out of the hands of any "AI" training. Both for data that we generate and data that is shared with us.
We do track some non-people data with regards to the Playground. Some projects have scores, campaigns, stats, or feedback of some variety. This is associated with a Reader Account that way someone can read from where they left off or keep a high score. This Privacy Policy governs how we handle that data when this happens.
We define "Personal Information" as any information relating to an identifiable individual. This may include, but is not limited to: name, mailing address, telephone number, email address, Internet Protocol ("IP") address, age, gender identity, or social account names. Wherever any such Personal Information is collected, we indicate whether any is required and why you might provide that Personal Information as well as any consequences of failing to do so if applicable. There are some cases where, if Personal Information is not provided when requested, you may not be able to benefit from aspects of our site. Create your Reader Account and provide you with the Playground, identify you across the Playground such as when you sign in or progress a story, communicate with you such as letting you know about upcoming changes, display the information as part of pages you visit, and calculate anonymous aggregate statistics to better improve the Playground or develop new features.
What we collect:
Information we automatically collect from your use of our site, including: IP address, cookie data, device information, browser type, pages visited, or actions performed in the Playground such as story choices.
What we do with it:
Provide communication features as part of our site, measure the use and overall satisfaction with our site, investigate and prevent reported issues or breaches of the Terms of Use, help prevent prohibited activity such as fraud or abuse, calculate anonymous aggregate statistics to better improve our site or develop new features, and for security purposes.
Except for your username and email address, which are required to create your Reader Account, you can always opt not to disclose any Personal Information, however some features of the Playground may not be usable or useful. Aside from your username, which is required to set up your Reader Account and can be fictitious, we do not display your Personal Information on our site or reveal it to others.
We do not make decisions that may have legal effects or similarly significantly affect you based solely on automated processing of your Personal Information. All decision-making processes related to the processing purposes described above are carried out with human intervention.
We may disclose your Personal Information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with applicable laws, in response to a court order, judicial or other government subpoena or warrant, or to otherwise cooperate with law enforcement or other governmental agencies.
